- Possible Scenarios -

After coming up with 10 different scenarios for our dark tales, I simply numbered then from 1 to 10, so we can assign a rolled number to one of those scenarios, allowing us to use the results of die rolls for our scenario selection. I will try to use more than one Omega Roll whenever possible, just because (don't judge me!).

For this first step, there will be two Omega Rolls to decide the fate of our first chapter:

Omega Roll #1 - Narrowing the scenario pool:

  • I will roll one d10 myself and remove a scenario that matches the rolled number from the scenario selection pool.
  • I will keep rolling d10s until we have 4 scenarios eliminated from our scenario selection pool.
  • If any number is repeated, then we will put that scenario back in our scenario selection pool.

After this first Omega Roll, we will have 6 scenarios left in our scenario pool. I will re-number those from 1 to 6 alphabetically.

Omega Roll #2 - Definitive selection from the scenario pool:

  • I will ask one someone else to roll a handful of d6, and we will count the amount of times the same number shows up. Whatever number is rolled the most amount of times will be our selected scenario.
  • If there is a tie for the same amount of specific numbers rolled from 1 to 6, then I will just ask the person to roll a few more dice until one number from 1 to 6 stands out with the most amount of rolls of the same number.

Let's do this!

- The 10 Scenarios -

Scenario 1 - Nebula Storm

One of the biggest cargo ships of the world, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Triple E Class, suddenly stops responding to the crew commands and starts sailing onto an unexpected direction on its own. A well-prepared support team consisting in one helicopter and two smaller boats is sent by the company that owns the cargo ship to assist the 19-member crew of the cargo ship to restore control. All communications with the cargo ship and the support crew is lost as soon as there is a confirmation of the support crew boarding the cargo ship. Our characters might be part of the original crew, the support/rescue team, or be someone illegally hidden in the cargo ship or it's containers.

Scenario 2 - The Mist

One day after a massive and violent storm, an unnatural thick fog moves towards the Raven Park city. Citizen quickly realize that staying inside enclosed safe locations is a matter of life and death, as exposing oneself to the fog out in the open results in people vanishing or dying in brutal fashion. During the first hour of the phenomenon, while the fog engulfs the city, it is possible to hear screams of despair and pain; after that all that can be heard are bizarre sounds from living creatures that don't sound like either human or any known animal. Our characters could be anyone in the modern urban environment, they are going to be sheltered inside a big commercial building located in the centre of the city, along with a few dozen of other survivors.

Scenario 3 - Frog Squad

The space marines team called Frog Squad answers to a distress signal coming from the space station Nexus B9; no one replies to their attempts of communication, a visual scan shows that only the emergency lights seem to be working at the station at the moment, while further detailed diagnostics show systemic and structural damage in various locations of the interplanetary station, but it is not clear how the damage was caused in the first place. As soon as the marines dock their ship to the structure and open the hatches to enter the station, they notice dark stains of blood everywhere; silence is the only thing filling the darkness ahead. Our characters would have military background as infantry soldiers, engineers, medics, researchers and possible survivors from the space station.

Scenario 4 - G.U.L.F - Gandran Underwater Life Facility

After the second world war, a big underwater military facility was build in the hopes of safe survival in the events of a possible nuclear war. The military buildings are surrounded by a whole township that supports the routine operations, including plantation fields, animal farmland, small factories, commercial venues and a complete urban structure. As time passed, this complex of structures isolated itself almost completely from the world above, turning into a fully independent sovereign state in all its aspects. Life is pretty good for the inhabitants for decades, until a research laboratory accidentally breeds a destructive virus able to adapt itself to any environment and absorb the qualities and characteristics of other organisms. Attempts to hold the virus by quarantining o exterminating infected living beings fail, and the virus quickly dictates the end of human life in the facility. Our characters will be regular citizen, military personnel, specialized workers, researchers or even lab test subjects.

Scenario 5 - Epic Fail

In a big realm under the command of a sadistic tyrant, the death penalty was revoked to appease groups of interest and ends up being substituted by the slim chance of redemption through a challenging survival show: criminals are sentenced to a one-way ticket to a medieval labyrinthic underground dungeon, with the promise of a clean criminal record upon release if they can escape that environment. From the surface above, the sadistic despot and his close followers watch the events from a big piece of magic tapestry enchanted by greedy mages that control it to function as a cinema screen that shows whatever is going on with the convicted. All people are allowed to buy tickets to watch from crowded stands and bets regarding convicts' demises move a substantial amount of gambling money, specially when it comes to guessing who is going to die next; during specific events people are even allowed to enter bid wars on what the screen should show next. Our characters can be wronged heroes, actual criminals looking for redemption, government's political opponents, slaves, captured soldiers from other lands or even citizen that were unable to pay their debts.

Scenario 6 - Extraordinary Gentlefolks

A group unites to fight against an obscure conspiracy in a Victorian-themed cityscape during the modernization of the urban environment; the group gets deeply entangled in a dangerous investigation, with no way out of it other than getting to the bottom of the scheme and find their true enemy. No one knows how far goes the influence of the conspirators, at one point our group doesn't even know if they can trust each other, all they know is that some unimaginable disaster is on the way and could jeopardize the world as they know it. Occultist sects, macabre rituals, sinister acolytes, profane mysteries and sombre creatures from the underworld. Our characters may be detectives/cops/investigators, erudite/researches/scholars, mercenaries, religious devotees, regretful cultists, or just people that felt into the conspiracy rabbit hole by accident.

Scenario 7 - Wild Wild Weird

During a violent period of the North American "old west" history, strange things are happening on the furthest frontiers of the settlements around a major town: after being radically wronged and brutalized, the sole survivor of a massacre seeks revenge through profane deals with malign spiritual beings. The price of that bargain is paid collectively when those evil spirits convince the broken man to free them into our world with the promise of total annihilation or domination of all life forms in the region. Our characters would be cowboys, farmers, mercenaries, lawmen, religious beacons, thieves, politicians, railroad workers, blacksmiths, business owners or nomads.

Scenario 8 - From Dusk to Dawn

At an isolated road of rural North America an unusual darkness takes over the day in the middle of the afternoon, while the temperature drops abruptly far beyond normal and a heavy, dense, dark water rain explodes; all those factors make it impossible to drive or ride safely on the road, as visibility is impaired and people on the region are not prepared for the dangerously cold temperatures. Seeking for shelter, a few unrelated people gather inside the closest building they can find: an old and shady hotel-bar. New worries arise when all electronics on the place go nuts at the same time, loudly reproducing diabolic sounds, then stop working altogether in sequence. Our characters are going to be bikers, gang members, truck drivers, wasted drunks, cops, ex-religious leaders, exotic dancers, bus passengers, clients and staff of the hotel-bar, thieves running from the law or common folks inexplicably attracted to the place or forced to be there for some reason.

Scenario 9 - Asylum

Our characters wake up in a dimly lit padded cell, wearing a straightjacket, ankle cuffs and a sound-absorbing gag. Bearing a massive headache, but no other visible injuries, they have clear memories of a regular day of their lives up to a certain point, the last thing they remember is going to bed to sleep. None of our characters know why are they there or how they got there. There is a small armoured glass window on the padded doors of the cells and our characters can partially see an equally dimly lit corridor with doors to the other cells. Muffled screams can be heard from the distance, as well as some indistinguishable sounds. Our characters might be anyone from our current contemporary world.

Scenario 10 - Age of Myths

During the Ancient History of humanity, a group of people is offered as sacrifice to a profane god in expectation of exchanging those people's lives for the unnatural longevity of the ritual performers; something goes wrong during the ritual and the failure results in an unnoticed dimensional door opening for sombre creatures to enter our word. A rising wave of violence slowly takes over the city and farmlands around the area where the ritual was performed, as people seem to slowly go insane and get possessed by urges that are not theirs. Our characters will be soldiers, religious devotees, ritual participants, messengers, politicians, hunters, fishermen and townsfolk.
